With the midfield and attacking areas more than covered by recent acquisitions and the incumbent squad, it's at the back that the Hammers need to focus the rest of their transfer window efforts this summer. Whilst Tomkins and Reid are a comfortable first choice, the demands of the Premier League make it unlikely that they will go without injury, and we certainly need cover in this department.
One paper today suggests that James Collins might be on his way back in a £2m deal from Villa. We certainly missed his effort in our relegation season, but I wonder if his acquisition will be a step forward for us? He is only 28, and is rather injury prone for that age, but perhaps Big Sam feels he can 'manage' his fitness and use him a third choice only? Be interesting to see.
We also need cover at right back, with Guy Demel's tentative performances not filling me with confidence he is the answer for next season. Joey O'Brien seems to have disappeared as well, where do these footballers go to? Maybe sitting at home and playing on partycasino.com or whatever it is that fills the time. Me? I'm just patiently waiting for 18 August, think it's gonna be a corker, Irons!!!
